20 Homegrown Seeds. Erythrostemon gilliesii, also known as Yellow Bird-of-Paradise Shrub or Caesalpinia gilliesii. Native to South America, but naturalized in the western United States.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade (here in zone 8b it grows well in full sun).
Leaf Retention: Semi-Evergreen in zones 8b-11
Size: 6-10 ft height, 6-8 ft width.
These are seeds from 2025. 90% germination rate when tested back in 2024. Germination typically takes 4-14 days with a soil temperature of 80-90F, but times vary greatly and some seeds may germinate up 90 days later. Scarification (scratching the seed with sandpaper) can speed up germination, but isn't required.
